Well this is my first post on Footballislife (insert cheesy speech here) and I’ve got a rare opportunity to visit Bury at Gigg Lane as my brother is a Bury fan.
I was quite excited for this game as it was a chance to see a good standard of League 1 football at a ground I’ve never been to before. Plus it was a chance to see Jordan Rhodes, who in my opinion is the best striker outside the premiership.
Key Players: Pre-Game

Pre-game I was tipping Schumacher as a potential match winner for Bury. He makes things tick and happen from that central midfield role.
Huddersfield, well, there’s only one player on everybody’s lips at Huddersfield right now. That boy Jordan Rhodes is the player I wanted to keep my eye on. A proper ‘Fox in the Box’ type player who’ll pop up with 25 goals from inside 6 yards.
The Game
In the Bury end, the Shakers crowd seemed drowned out by the travelling Huddersfield fans and the first 30 minutes of the game, the team’s performances were no different. Morrison put Huddersfield ahead mid-way through the first half. No surprises who popped up with a very dubious (I was sitting in line with defence, he was at least 3 yards offside!) second a few minutes later, Jordan Rhodes with his 31st goal of the season glancing the ball into the bottom corner. Before you could blink, Rhodes had crept into the box to volley a cross that was never cleared into the top corner.
Bury were in for along afternoon it seemed. Until a well worked move earned them a free kick not far outside the box. Schumacher placed it brilliantly in the corner to sneak the thoughts of a comeback into the players mind and give Huddersfield something to think about in the second half.
The non-existent Carrington was replaced at half-time by the tricky David Amoo. For me, this was the game changer for Bury. His pace and trickery offered something else for Bury, something that no-one had really offered in the first half (with the Exception of David Worrall in places). Sure enough, it was Amoo that burst down the right to provide the cross for Lenell John-Lewis to score in the 70th minute. By the way, fantastic praise for the Bury fans for their song for John-Lewis.
His name is a shop, his name is a shooop, Lenell John-Lewis, his name is a shop.
Genius.
Bury’s fighting spirit was a joy to watch. With the inclusion of Lateef Elford-Alliyu the Bury cake had it’s icing. They were causing Huddersfield problems all over the pitch and Huddersfield were unable to deal with them and lost any attacking threat in the process. There was only ever going to be one team that scored again before the close of play.
With 5 stoppage minutes, Bury found their point saver. A sweet corner from Peter Sweeney wasn’t cleared properly and of all people to pop-up Craig Eastham slotted a lovely finish to send the Shakers crowd mad.
I left the ground at the final whistle to chorus’ of 3-0 and you f***ed it up, football’s harsh but funny reality.
Huge respect for the Bury team for clawing their way back into the game though, fantastic.
Man of The Match
Giving it to Rhodes would be easy, 2 goals and his general play was good. But barely touching the ball after 60 minutes. My MoM goes to David Amoo. Once he came on, Bury went from a potential relegation candidate to a good attacking team who could make an outside push for play-offs. He was a huge difference today.
Good experience, good game, thoroughly enjoyed. Worth a watch on the Football League show tonight.
